How Your Diet can Affect the Health of Your Hair

The key to healthy looking hair does not end with an stylish haircut. Ever wonder why even when using the most expensive treatments, your hair simply lacks shine, is brittle and split ends never seem to end? What we put in our body is the most important thing for a healthy life, and healthy hair. Along with a good hair routine, these are some of the best foods that can help you achieve the hair you have always dreamed of: 

  1. Salmon
  2. Fatty fish such as salmon contain a plethora of omega-3 which can help with hair growth. Salmon also contain vitamin D3, B vitamins, protein and selenium. A deficiency of vitamin D3 has been linked to hair loss, so getting a healthy amount of vitamin D3 is vital 
  3. Avocados
  4. Avocados have been exploding in popularity for good reason. Not only are they delicious, but they are also rich in vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps prevent oxidative stress to areas of the skin, like the scalp. A damaged scalp can cause poor hair quality, and fewer hair follicles. 
  5. Spinach 
  6. Dark leafy greens such as spinach and kale contain a lot of vitamin A, along with vitamin C, iron, folate and beta carotene. Iron is what helps red blood cells carry oxygen through the body, which helps growth and repair. Iron deficiency can lead to hair loss, so incorporating iron into your diet is an absolute must. 
  7. Eggs
  8. Eggs supply the body with two of the most important nutrients for healthy hair: biotin and protein. Hair follicles are mostly made of protein, and biotin is what helps the production of keratin. Many supplements for hair growth are marketed as being rich in biotin. However, if you have a balanced diet, there is no need for additional biotin, and there are little proven benefits from the consumption of more biotin. Eggs can help you get the healthy amount of biotin your body needs. 


There are of course many more foods that can be added to this list, but these are just a few foods that contain the most essential nutrients for strong and healthy hair. Your body is a working system, and all parts can be affected by your lifestyle, diet, stressors and other factors. Starting off with a balanced diet can make all the difference in your journey to amazing looking hair.
